2020 Torpedoes Registration

You are about to register for the 2020 Torpedoes swim season.

The process is simple for both new and returning members.  You'll get access to your own private account.

Swimmers must be at 3-18 YEARS OLD on MAY 31 to be eligible to join the team.

Please note that once you have registered your swimmer, the registration fee is non-refundable after May 13th.  Before May 13th, you may be entitled to a partial refund (minus a $15 charge for misc. fees) via check.

Swimmers are subject to minimum skill requirements.  Please see section below entitled, Swimmer Skill Requirements for details.

Please note that this is a swim team and not a learn-to-swim program.  All swimmers should register with the expectation that they will compete in a minimum of 3 regular season swim meets.  We do not have a "practice only" option.

2020 Regular Season Meets: June 1, June 8, June 15, June 22, June 29

2020 Meet of Champions: TBD (swimmers are eligible if they have participated in 2 regular season meets)

2020 All Stars: TBD (swimmers must qualify based on Meet of Champions results)

You will receive important information throughout the season via team-wide email.  Please choose an email address below that you check regularly.

Caution: Please enter each swimmer's birth date carefully and verify it before registering.  If a swimmer's age group fills up before any date error is corrected, we have no choice but to move that swimmer to the wait list for that age group.

Parent Volunteer Requirement Agreement

The Torpedoes Swim Team is a parent run organization that will require each family to work FIVE half meets for the 2020 regular season. Swimming with the Torpedoes is affordable because our team is run by volunteers.  Some of our families choose to volunteer all season (and beyond) on our Torpedoes Board, which we encourage and appreciate.  The Board plans and coordinates our meets and events, hires coaches, and works with the SHRSL to make our team run smoothly.  But when it comes to swim meet days, it takes about 100 volunteers per meet to run an efficient and successful meet, so we need every family to participate!

If your child participates in Meet of Champions or All Stars in July, you will be required to volunteer at those meets as well.

Our regular season meets are generally held on Monday evenings in June and July.  Specific timing information for each meet is emailed and posted on our website before the meet, but for planning purposes, expect that first-half volunteers usually arrive around 3:30-4:00PM, and second-half volunteers arrive around 6:00PM.  Times vary for home and away meets.

Any adult member of your family may volunteer at our meets.  A few jobs, like Stroke Judge, require in-person training, but most of our jobs are easily learned from our experienced volunteers or from our website.  Some example jobs:  Timers, Scribes, Awards, Data Entry, Set-up/Takedown, Announcers, Age Group Marshals, Scorekeepers, Runners, and Stroke Judges.

We understand that fitting volunteer shifts into your busy family and work schedule requires planning.  As you plan, remember that you may volunteer for both halves of the same meet, and/or you can have more than one volunteer from your family work during the same half-meet shift, filling separate volunteer jobs.  Please note that each adult volunteer will need to have their name included as a parent with an email address in the registration process or they won't be able to sign up for a slot.

The Torpedoes require a $250 volunteer guarantee deposit per family and will pre-approve your credit card for this amount at the time of registration.  However, the team would much rather have your time and commitment than your money.  The deposit is NOT a buyout option.  Your credit card hold will not be processed unless you do not sign up for the 5 required volunteer shifts by the published deadline or fail to subsequently complete all of your family's volunteer shift requirements.

If a family fails to sign up for and complete their required volunteer shifts, the Torpedoes reserve the right to restrict your swimmer(s) from swimming in the rest of the current swim season, including practices and meets.  Additionally, families who do not sign up for and complete their required volunteer shifts will not qualify for returning-swimmer registration for the 2021 season.

I have read this statement and agree to volunteer at FIVE half meets and at MOC/All Stars if my child participates. I agree to sign up for my volunteer jobs on the team website in May by the published deadline.

Torpedoes Swim Team's Code of Conduct

Swimming on the New Territory Torpedoes Swim Team can be great fun for everybody. However, we must remember that with so many swimmers and only a few supervising adults and coaches, everyone must cooperate. This CODE OF CONDUCT exists to maintain order and above all, safety, at all practices and swim meets. Swimmers and their parents should review the code together and discuss its points to ensure that each swimmer is aware of his/her responsibilities - and the consequences of not following any point of the code (see #10 below).

1. Swimmers are to be respectful and obedient to those in authority. This includes coaches, marshals, and other parent helpers at the swim practices and meets.

2. Foul, abusive, or otherwise unseemly language will not be tolerated at any time.

3. All pool safety rules SHALL BE followed during and after practices.

4. Swimmers SHALL NEVER enter the pool until instructed to do so by the coaches.

5. Unruly behavior such as pushing, fighting, running, or dunking WILL NOT be tolerated.

6. The swim team is for having fun; BUT when the coaches require your attention - listen.

7. Each swimmer/parent will be financially responsible for damages to any pool or swim team equipment at the practice or meet facilities.

8. Do not walk on top of the walls at the Club pool. We have had injuries due to children balancing and walking along the narrow edge of the wall.

9. During swim meets and practices, all participants and spectators are forbidden to go within two feet of the “baby pool”.

10. Swimmers not able to follow the CODE OF CONDUCT will be disciplined. Disciplinary action shall be at the discretion of the coaches or the swim team board, and may include suspension from practices, meets, or if necessary, from the team for the remainder of the season - without any refund of fees.

I agree to the points outlined above.

Swimmer Skill Requirements

I acknowledge that the Board (based on evaluation by the head swim coach) may determine that my child is unable to swim for the 2020 Torpedoes season based on adequate skill and maturity levels.  I acknowledge that this decision is based on the sole discretion of the Board (based upon recommendation from the head swim coach), but may be based upon the following criteria:

1)  Child must be FULLY POTTY TRAINED;

2)  Child must not be afraid to enter the water;

3) Child must be able to follow directions; and

4) Child must be able to swim to flags by the 2-week mark.

If it is determined that your swimmer will not be able to meet these requirements within 2 weeks of practice (by May 8th), your registration fee will be partially refunded (minus a $15 fee) via check.

Practice Team:

If it is determined that your swimmer will be unable to swim the length of the pool (25 meters) by May 31 (as determined by the head coach), your swimmer will be ineligible to compete in swim meets.  Your swimmer will be able to practice with the team, but will not swim competitively.  No refunds will be issued if this determination is made.
